Better Safe than Sorry...

Without Anti-Virus software your PC is vulnerable to Computer Viruses, including:

If your machine is unfortunately infected with a virus, this can have serious consequences including:

Anti-virus software is one of the defenses against online problems. It continually scans for viruses, including Trojans and worms. To be effective it must be kept up-to-date.

What is a Computer Virus and How does it Spread?

Computer viruses are software programs that are deliberately and maliciously designed by unscrupulous computer geeks, that interfere with normal computer operation, record, corrupt, or delete data, or spread themselves to other computers and throughout the Internet – sometimes the user is unaware that his/her machine has become infected.

Once seen as pranks or the products of misdirected creativity, the financial loss to businesses due to virus attacks runs in the millions of pounds annually. The ‘infection’ rate is equally staggering. One US survey found that 98% of American businesses have been infected by a combination of over 6,000 types of viruses that are currently catalogued. One virus known as “Concept” is believed to have infected nearly one half of all companies nationwide within one year.

When you use e-mail programs or browse the Internet, you subject your computer to viruses. A virus can infect your computer when you do something as harmless as clicking a file attachment in an e-mail message that is sent from someone on an infected computer. The more that you use your computer for communication, whether through the Internet, through e-mail, or through file sharing, the more susceptible your computer is to viruses and virus-related problems.

Viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or Audio and Video files and are often spread by attachments in e-mail messages or Instant Messaging messages. For this reason it is essential not to open e-mail attachment unless you know who it's from and you are expecting it in your InBox. USB Flash or Pen-drives used on infected computer are another means by which viruses are spread.

To help prevent the most current viruses from infecting and spreading, companies like Microsoft highly recommend the use of up-to-date Anti-Virus software that protects your PC and your contacts by working in the background. Anti-virus software searches for latent viruses on your PC, including those that may have spread to your system without your knowledge, and can also install 'fixes', which protects against future infections. Unfortunately, some computer viruses are not discovered until you try to upgrade or to modify your software.

And then there was Spam!

Everybody hates 'junk' e-mails - also known as Spam.

Spam has become a real problem for anyone that relies on e-mail communication, especially business professionals for whom e-mail account is no-longer seen as an optional extra, but rather a crucial productivity tool. With spam rates hitting in excess of 75% of all emails received in the average InBox, implementing spam filters is a must.

Spam wastes valuable time and also exposes the user to Malware attacks as well as having a negative impact on the network resources and performance.

If you were once the proud owner of a high-performance computer, but lately it has slowed to a snail’s pace, then you could be a victim of Cyber-attack.
